Yogurt Dressing

In this recipe we see how to prepare the yogurt sauce (yogurt dressing). The taste is very similar to tzatziki sauce. The difference is in the spices used. The typical Albanian recipe is made with dill, but sometimes I also use oregano or mint. It really depends on which dish the yogurt sauce goes with. In Albania, it is usually used to accompany meat main courses. Grilled lamb chops, grilled pork … but it is also often used to accompany fried potatoes or fast food. For the preparation of the yogurt sauce it really takes 5 minutes and very few ingredients.

Yogurt Dressing

Below are the ingredients to prepare the sauce at home.

  • 400 Greek yoghurt (or thick whole yoghurt)
  • 2/3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 branch of fresh dill. Alternatively, you can use oregano or tin mint.
  • A pinch of salt
  1. First check the density of the yogurt. If you have Greek yogurt go to the next step, otherwise you have to filter the yogurt to make it lose too much water.
  2. Pour the yogurt into a container, pour in a pinch of salt and try. (Add more salt if that’s not enough).
  3. Take the garlic cloves, once peeled, finely chop them with a knife. If you want a less strong taste, just crush the garlic and pour its juice.
  4. Clean the cucumber and peel it. Grate the cucumber in the grater and pour the pulp into the bowl.
  5. Add the olive oil and finely chopped dill. Stir vigorously to mix all the ingredients well.
  6. The yogurt sauce is ready to use. You can serve it in single-portion jars.

Enjoy your meal!
